R & J, two old accounting coworkers recently met at a charity drive at location A.

J mentioned that she had been working for a few days a week at the location, (A) and she was interested in working a few more days and if R needed any help, she would be willing to assist her or anyone else.

Eventually, J starts assisting R, partially to boost her NIS contributions and to increase her earnings, while J continues to work at location A (where they met).

J becomes pregnant and decides to claim NIS benefits.

As indicated under the NIS documentation which can be sourced from the website and from office of the NIB, J goes on 3 months maternity leave with pay.

Given that both R & J are experienced in accounting and R can perform the following:

Prepare Cheque Payment Vouchers
Write Cheques
Use Excel to create records
Prepare Bank Reconciliations

R decides to apply to assist Location A, for the 3 months that J is on maternity leave.

Should R receive the same remuneration as J receives over the 3 months when J is on maternity leave?

Question 1 What information would you need to determine the substance of the above transactions?

a) Their family relationship?
b) Their work history
c) Documentation on R's hiring practices
d) R's NIS files and other payroll records
e) Any other
